Privacy and Data Flow
Aori is built on a local-first principle: your data stays on your device by default. This page explains exactly what is stored where and when data leaves your device.
What Stays on Your Device
Section titled “What Stays on Your Device”The following is never sent to Aori’s servers (because Aori has no backend for your app data):
- Conversation history
- Memory and knowledge files
- AI provider API keys
- Persona configurations
- Routine definitions
- Connected Skills settings
- Local Folder and Obsidian Vault file contents
All of this is stored on your device as local files or encrypted local storage.
What Leaves Your Device
Section titled “What Leaves Your Device”Data leaves your device only in these cases:
1. AI Provider Requests
Section titled “1. AI Provider Requests”When you send a message, Aori sends your message (and relevant memory context) to your chosen AI provider — OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Groq, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, or Ollama. Ollama runs locally; all other providers are cloud services with their own privacy policies.
2. Cloud Skills
Section titled “2. Cloud Skills”If you connect Notion or Google Account, Aori accesses those services on your behalf using their APIs. Only the specific content needed for a given request is sent to your AI provider.
3. Website Analytics
Section titled “3. Website Analytics”The Aori website (not the app) uses Umami for privacy-first analytics — no cookies, no personal data, no cross-site tracking. See the Privacy Policy for details.
API Keys
Section titled “API Keys”Your API keys are stored locally and are never sent to Aori. They are sent directly to the respective AI provider when making requests.
If you use WhatsApp, your messages are linked through a real WhatsApp account you control. See Channels and the WhatsApp account safety note.
Your Rights
Section titled “Your Rights”You can delete your memory files, conversation history, and all local data at any time from Settings → Data → Clear All Data. You can also manually browse and edit memory files from Settings → Memory.
